Now I really love Windows Media Player (WMP) 9 Series (although its popularity is not the subject here) I have recently had a lot of problems with it. I have not upgraded the program itself lately, but all the time I keep on experiencing this prob;
basically when I open and watch a video clip and then close WMP, and about 5secs after I try to re-open another different video, it just does nothing, and it does not open. I know Levi has been having this same problem. Also along with this very annoying problem, that is happening frequently, I am also more recently seeing WMP become more and more unstable whilst watching video clips, and its becoming fast annoying. Any ideas? Can you completely uninstall the components of media player and then reinstall it? any help would be appreciated!
Ash.

Yes the removal of such software is simple. Follow these simple steps... 1. Open up Control Panel and go to Add remove programs 2. Click on add remove windows components from down the left hand side 3. From the new menu you can un-install WMP 4. Ask sgtbash for the most up to date WMP Bash (Other quality guides will soon be available to members at www.danstreeter.co.uk

thats because he forgot to mention nLite, see you can add/remove software with windows but windows components still stay there for some reason, so you need nLite. just thought i would say that, might help a bit. davidvc.spymac.net/downloads/nlite-0.97bi.exe*Mirey shakes his head* also another solution is to get winamp although i know how big for microsfot things are(excludiong windows, cuase i use it too ), so i understand if you don't want to -Mirey

You havent read bash's post correctly. He did infact instruct to remove it from windows components, not just ordinary software add and remove.

Nope the reason you cant un-install it is because you have windows xp pro, on home you can un-install it.

Yeah I realise that, but im responding to dans I am just stating what I have already done! Al, yeah I know you can do that with the end process, I knew that from the start of the problem, but its fast getting more and more annoying as thats far from a solution. Does that mean you have been experiencing the same problem? Please remember to log in to the forum when u post, how many times do I have to mention it Try introduce yourself to the tickbox that keeps you permantly logged in, Cheers for your input guys.

First, make a copy of sysoc.inf (found on the hard disk at \winnt\inf\sysoc.inf) before proceeding so that you can restore the initial configuration if necessary. Give the copy a different name, such as sysoc2.inf. Open the Sysoc.inf file. Each line of text in the file represents a component that can be displayed in the Add/Remove Windows Components dialog. Delete the word HIDE for any component that you want to see in the dialog (do not erase the commas). Save the Sysoc.inf file, then close it, and reboot your computer. The Add/Remove Windows Components dialog will now display the items you want.

The reason you can not open another video 5 seconds later is because windows media player is not closing itself properly. I think simply removing it like Mirey said is a bit rash before we can do any diags, so I suggest you check if it does it for all video types.
When you close WMP it will remain resident in Processes if it is having trouble closing. This will stop it displaying any further videos because it is already "disposing" when a new command comes in. The most likely reason for this is a problem with your codec. This would also explain video problems.
Check it out, does it have the same problem with XviD as DivX or even regular WMV files? Or is it just one. For me my Div3 codec was mashed, as was my AC3 codec, so I had trouble with several different kinds of videos.
Get G-Spot - that program is the daddy, and it also gave me the first indication that my AC3 codec was having trouble - I'm not saying it will definitely help you, but it's still the daddy.

Alternatively, WinAMP 5 is a very capable (and purty) program. I have recently been swayed away from many things Microsoft thanks to the latest major security scares and it's good to see that other companies can provide such great software for windows!
